Among athletic record shattering taking place in Athens this year is the record shattering security costs. The $1.5 billion system uses the latest monitoring technology including a camera and microphone to voice recognition technology allowing the security computers to "listen in" on crowds for scandalous talk. Trained to recognize words such as "bomb" and "gun" as well as gunshot sounds and explosions, the system intends to keep the spectators safe from any would-be terrorist. However some spectators have decided to engage in thier own form of terrorisim. These al-Qida supporters look inconspicuous at frist glance, yet closer observation singles them out with thier BK Whoppers and Nike running shoes. And don't be caught carrying high pressure explosive bottles of Pepsi into the stadium or be ready for a discussion with security personel. Included in the $1.5 billion is protection against competitive marketing inside the stadiums, raising new questions on who deserves the autonomy of a free market: the company or the consumer...
